单词 carue
释义

caruen.

Forms: Also 1500s carewe, (1600s– carve).
Etymology: < Old Northern French carue (modern French charrue = Provençal carruga , Italian carruca ) < Latin carrūca (medieval Latin carrūca , carrūga , carrūa ), used already in the Salic Law in the sense ‘plough’. See note to carucate n. Modern French charrue is both plough and plough-land (or carucate), whence the English use. The spelling carve is a blunder of transcription, after the differentiation of u and v, owing to the fact that v was right before e in most words, e.g. carve, starve, serve.
Old Law.
A plough-land or carucate n.
