单词 alamed
释义

alamedadj.

Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps formed within English, by derivation. Perhaps a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymons: a- prefix2, English lamed , lame v.; English alemed.
Etymology: Either < a- prefix2 + lamed, past participle of lame v. (although this is first attested slightly later), or an alteration of early Middle English alemed (see note) after lame adj. Compare later lamed adj. at lame v. Derivatives. The variant reading alemed in quot. c1275 appears to show the reflex (with reduced form of the prefix: see a- prefix2) of Old English gelemed crippled (one isolated attestation as gelæmed ), past participle of Old English lemman (also lemian ) (see lame v.).
Obsolete.
Paralysed, lame.
