Derivatives.The variant reading alemed in quot. c1275 appears to show the reflex (with reduced form of the prefix: see a- prefix²) of Old English gelemed crippled (one isolated attestation as gelæmed ), past participle of Old English lemman (also lemian ) (see lame v.).
