Brit. /ˈkeɪsə/, U.S. /ˈkeɪsər/
Origin: Of unknown origin.
Etymology: Origin unknown. O.E.D. Suppl. (1972) derives the word < Yiddish kesef silver ( < Hebrew kesē̄p ), which is impossible on formal grounds. Alternatively, perhaps compare Hebrew keṯer crown (in Ashkenazic pronunciation /keser/; compare quot. 1860 at sense 1, although there is no other evidence to suggest a connection).
