Etymology: < post-classical Latin aduncatus, past participle (compare -ate suffix2) of aduncare to bend, curve (4th or 5th cent. in Augustine) < classical Latin ad- ad- prefix + uncus hooked, crooked, curved (see uncous adj.). Compare earlier adunc adj. and slightly earlier aduncous adj.
Hooked, bent inward.Chiefly in scientific contexts.
