A rose of a variety having many-petalled flowers; spec. the cultivated hybrid rose Rosa × centifolia, having large, fragrant, globular flowers with many overlapping petals; (also) a flower of such a plant.The hybrid Rosa × centifolia, also called cabbage rose or Provence rose, is thought to have originated too late to be identical with the plant named by Pliny (see quot. 1640).
