Etymology: < Christ n. + -dom suffix, in sense 1 perhaps as a shortening of Christendom n. N.E.D. (1889) gives the pronunciation as (kri·stdəm) /ˈkrɪstdəm/.
Obsolete. rare.
1. The parts of the world where Christianity is the dominant religion, regarded collectively; = Christendom n. 3c.Either a phonetic shortening, or a scribal abbreviation.
