Etymology: Originally a misprint for adventitious adj. (and noted as such in a list of errata appended to the source cited in quot. 1633). In later use apparently irregularly < advention n. (see -ous suffix), on the analogy of contentious adj. besides contention n., although it is possible that some later instances may show misprints for adventitious adj.
