Etymology: Humorously < the name of the Chianti Mountains (see Chianti n.) + shire n., as if representing the name of an English county.

The region of Tuscany in Italy, esp. the area surrounding the Chianti Mountains, perceived in terms of its popularity as a holiday destination for British tourists and as a home for British expatriates.
