Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: choler n., -ous suffix.
Etymology: < choler n. + -ous suffix. Compare Anglo-Norman colorus , Middle French collereus , colereux , French coléreux hot-tempered, full of anger (early 13th cent. or earlier in Anglo-Norman; c1369 in an apparently isolated attestation, and subsequently from 1580, in continental French), post-classical Latin cholerosus (1549 or earlier; rare). Compare earlier choleric adj., cholerical adj.
