Also occasionally: stylish or dapper in a way that suggests a savvy or cunning nature. The word was popularized by a celebrated song, The Chickaleary Cove by Ernée Clark, the exact publication date of which is not known, but which was advertised as on sale by the Era 29 Sept. 1867 ; it was made famous by the music hall performer Alfred Vance (1836–88), and its first verse constitutes quot. 1868.
