An iron-containing mineral of the clinopyroxene group which is characteristic of many alkaline igneous rocks (see also quot. 1992); also called aegirite. Cf. acmite n.Aegirine is a silicate of sodium and ferric iron, NaFe iiiSi2O6, and typically occurs as dark green crystals. Crystal system: monoclinic.
