Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French afriier.
Etymology: < Old French afriier, Middle French afroier to rub (end of the 13th cent., reflexive) < a- a- prefix5 + friier , froier to rub (see fray v.2). Compare later fray v.2 N.E.D. (1884) enters this under affrayed and defines as ‘frayed, rubbed, worn bare’.
Obsolete.
