单词 chucky-pig
释义

chucky-pign.

Brit. /ˈtʃʌkɪpɪɡ/, U.S. /ˈtʃəkiˌpɪɡ/
Forms: 1700s– chucky-pig, 1800s– choogey-pig, 1800s– chooky-pig, 1900s– chicky-pig, 1900s– chiggy-pig, 1900s– choogy-pig, 1900s– chookie-pig, 1900s– chuckie-pig, 1900s– chucky-peg, 1900s– chuggy-pig.
Origin: Apparently formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: chuck int., -y suffix6, pig n.1
Etymology: Apparently < chuck int. (compare sense 1 at that entry) + -y suffix6 + pig n.1, probably originally as a pet name.Compare also English regional (south-western) chookey , choogey pig, especially a young one (late 19th cent.; probably shortened < chucky-pig n.). The association of woodlice (see sense 2) with pigs has a long history in English (compare e.g. sow n.1 5a, swine louse n. at swine n. Compounds 4a, hog-louse n. 1a, sow-bug n. 1) and also in other languages (compare porcelet n. and the Romance forms cited at that entry; compare also discussion of Spanish forms at cochineal n.). Its origin appears to lie in a perceived resemblance to the convex back of a grey pig, perhaps especially when such pigs are rooting in the soil or (as piglets) jostling at the sow's teats.
