释义 | clematisn. 1. A genus of twining shrubs (family Ranunculaceæ), having flowers with a showy calyx and no corolla, and seed-vessels adorned with long feathery appendages. The only British species is C. Vitalba, common in hedgerows on the chalk, popularly called Virgin's Bower, Traveller's Joy, and Old Man's Beard. C. Flammula, with small white sweet-scented flowers, and various species with large showy blue, purple, or red flowers, are cultivated in gardens in Britain.
