Origin: From a proper name, combined with an English element. Etymons: proper name Aeolus , -ina suffix.
Etymology: < the name of Aeolus (see Aeolian n. and adj.) + -ina suffix. With sense 1 compare German Aeolina (1830 or earlier; < English). In sense 2 perhaps after German Aeoline (1852 or earlier in this sense: see aeoline n.); compare French éoline (1870 in this sense; 1836 denoting a reed instrument), and later aeoline n. 2.
Now historical.
