Etymology: apparently identical with Old English clympre ‘lump, mass of metal’, < type *klumpriôn- < an adjective klump-ro- clumpish, derivative of klumpo- : see clump n. Later form assimilated to clump , but compare clutch v.1 < Old English clyccean.
