单词 cloffing
释义

cloffingn.

Etymology: Apparently Old English clufðung(e feminine; Middle English clofthounk and cloffynnge are the same word. Bosworth-Toller explains < clufu clove, bulb + þung masculine monkshood or hellebore. Compare clovetongue n.
Obsolete.
A plant: see quots. Cockayne understood the Old English name to mean Ranunculus sceleratus; which is probable, since both clufþung and clufwyrt are glossed by Batrachion, an old name of Ranunculus. But the Middle English name seems to mean a hellebore, as in Halliwell's modern entry.
