Etymology: < Latin cōgitāt- participial stem of cōgitāre to think. The latter is apparently contracted from co-agitāre , < co- together + agitāre , one of the senses of which is ‘to turn over in the mind, revolve, weigh, consider’; see agitate v. 5.
1. intransitive. To think, reflect, ponder, meditate; to exercise the thinking faculties.
