Etymology: Apparently < colour n.1 + -ish suffix2, although no corresponding verb is recorded in English (unless implied in later colourishing n.). Compare earlier varnish n.1 and later burnish n. Compare also colour v. (and foreign-language forms cited at that entry), colourize v.
Obsolete.
A colouring matter used to give the appearance of gold. Also figurative.
