Etymology: < agonistic adj.: see -ic suffix 2. Compare French agonistique (1668 or earlier), ancient Greek ἡ ἀγωνιστική the agonistic art (Plato), use as noun (short for ἡ ἀγωνιστικὴ τέχνη) of feminine of ἀγωνιστικός.
1. With singular agreement. The theory of agonistic rhetoric; agonistic argument. Cf. agonistic adj. 1.
