Etymology: < Anglo-Norman compainable, cumpenable, Anglo-Norman and Middle French compaignable, Middle French compagnable, compaingnable affable, sociable, companionable (beginning of the 13th cent. or earlier in Old French; French †compagnable ) < compagnier , compaignier , compaingnier company v. + -able -able suffix.
