Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Alice.
Etymology: < the name of Alice, the heroine of two books by ‘Lewis Carroll’ (C. L. Dodgson, 1832–98), Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking-Glass (1871).The character of Alice was inspired by Alice Pleasance Liddell (1852–1934), the daughter of Dodgson's colleague Henry Liddell, for whom an early version of the story was written.

Etymology: Acronym < the initial letters of All-purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment; after the female forename Alice.
Military (originally and chiefly U.S.).
A soldier's field pack for carrying weapons and other essential items, typically consisting of a frame with a rucksack and subsidiary attachments, or a belt or harness with a collection of pockets, pouches, etc. Sometimes applied to both the pack and the set of equipment it contains. Often attributive, esp. in Alice pack.
