Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian amorino.
Etymology: < Italian amorino (a1541) < amore love, the god of love (see amour n. and compare Amor n.) + -ino -ine suffix4. Compare slightly later amoret n. 5 and amoretto n. 3. Compare also puttine n.In plural form amorini after the Italian plural form.
Esp. in Renaissance and Baroque art: a representation of Cupid; a cupid, a putto. Cf. amoret n. 5, amoretto n. 3.
