Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin. Or (ii) a borrowing from Greek. Etymons: Latin amorphia; Greek ἀμορϕία.
Etymology: < (i) post-classical Latin amorphia (1640 or earlier), or its etymon (ii) ancient Greek ἀμορϕία unshapeliness, unsightliness, in Hellenistic Greek also formlessness < ἄμορϕος shapeless (see amorphous adj.) + -ία -y suffix3. Compare later amorphous adj.
Originally humorous.
Shapelessness; lack of definite form or character; disorder, disorganization.
