Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin concentus.
Etymology: < classical Latin concentus concent n.Attested earlier as an allegorical proper name:1586 Praise of Musicke iii. 38 Harmony had two sonnes. The one of them was called Concentus, the other Accentus: of Grammatica he begat Accentus, but Concentus was borne vnto him of the nymphe Musica.1609 J. Dowland tr. A. Ornithoparchus Micrologus iii. i. 69 The King allowed..that Concentus [L. Concentus] might be chiefe Ruler ouer all things that are to be sung..and Accent ouer all things, which are read.
Somewhat rare.
A harmonious combination, esp. of sounds.
