Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: concept n., -ism suffix.
Etymology: < concept n. + -ism suffix. In sense 2 after Spanish conceptismo (1869). Compare Spanish conceptista person who employs literary conceits (a1828), and also earlier concettism n.
1. In the theories of the American spiritualist Andrew Jackson Davis: a class of subjects including mythology, theology, science, and philosophy. Obsolete. rare.
