Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: concert v., -ion suffix1.
Etymology: Irregularly < concert v. + -ion suffix1. Compare earlier concertation n. 2.The reading is not entirely certain in quot. 1745 at sense 2. This word is found in the first edition and in most later editions, including that of 1787 with glossary, where it is glossed as ‘contrivance’. Some editions, however, have consertion (e.g. a 1751 edition; compare post-classical Latin consertio act of joining together (4th cent.)), while Cooke's 1799 edition and a few others from the early 19th cent. have conception.
