Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek ἀνθορισμός.
Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek ἀνθορισμός counter-definition < ἀνθορίζειν to make a counter-definition ( < ancient Greek ἀνθ- , variant (before an aspirate) of ἀντι- anti- prefix + ὁρίζειν to define: see horizon n.) + -ισμός -ism suffix.
Chiefly Rhetoric. rare.
A description or definition that counters that given by an opposing party; the action of countering the opposing party in this way.
