释义

consumedlyadv.

Brit. /kənˈsjuːmᵻdli/, U.S. /kənˈs(j)umədli/
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: consumed adj., -ly suffix2.
Etymology: < consumed adj. (compare sense 3 at that entry, and also later consume v.1 5) + -ly suffix2. Compare earlier consummately adv., with which the word was probably sometimes associated.
Confoundedly; excessively, extremely. Frequently as an intensifier. N.E.D. (1893) notes: ‘Slang of c1700, which has been handed down by the dramatists of that day, and become a literary affectation.’
