Etymology: < anthropo- comb. form + geography n., after German Anthropogeographie (1882 in this sense, in the title of F. Ratzel Anthropo-Geographie oder Grundzüge der Anwendung der Erdkunde auf die Geschichte; 1852 or earlier in sense ‘ethnology’).
The part of geography concerned with the relations of the earth to human populations, especially in the past; the anthropological aspects of human geography. Cf. human geography n. at human adj. and n. Compounds 1b.
