单词 anthropography
释义

anthropographyn.

Brit. /ˌanθrəˈpɒɡrəfi/, U.S. /ˌænθrəˈpɑɡrəfi/
Forms: 1500s anthropographie, 1700s– anthropography.
Origin: Probably of multiple origins. Probably partly a borrowing from Latin. Apparently formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: Latin anthropographia ; anthropo- comb. form, -graphy comb. form.
Etymology: In sense 1 probably < post-classical Latin anthropographia (although this is apparently first attested later in the relevant sense ‘anatomical description of the human body’ than the English word: 1618 or earlier in a book title; 1495 or earlier in uncertain sense, perhaps ‘pictorial representation of human beings‘) < anthropo- anthropo- comb. form + -graphia -graphy comb. form. In sense 2 apparently independently < anthropo- comb. form + -graphy comb. form.Compare classical Latin anthrōpographos portrait painter (Pliny).
