Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; apparently modelled on an Italian lexical item. Etymons: criminal adj., -oid suffix.
Etymology: < criminal adj. + -oid suffix, apparently after Italian criminaloide (1889 in the work reviewed in quot. 1890).
Chiefly Sociology.
A person with an inclination towards crime; an occasional rather than habitual criminal.
