Etymology: < Latin contribūt- participial stem of contribuĕre to bring together, add, contribute, < con- together + tribuĕre to bestow. (Formerly stressed ˈcontribute, which is still dialect and colloquial)
1. transitive. To make tributary, levy tribute upon. Obsolete. rare.
