Origin: A borrowing from Russian. Etymon: Russian agrogorod.
Etymology: < Russian agrogorod (1929 or earlier) < agro- agro- comb. form + gorod town (compare yard n.1). Compare slightly earlier agro-city n. at agro- comb. form 2, agro-town n. at agro- comb. form 2.In plural form agrogoroda after the Russian plural form.
Now historical.
In the Soviet Union: an administrative unit formed from the amalgamation of a group of collective farms (see kolkhoz n.), having the infrastructure of a town or city. Cf. agro-city n. at agro- comb. form 2, agro-town n. at agro- comb. form 2.
