Etymology: < post-classical Latin albescentia (1620 or earlier) < classical Latin albēscent- , present participial stem of albēscere to become white, to become light in colour, to become bright (see albescent adj.) + -ia -ia suffix1; compare -ence suffix, -escence suffix.
