Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly. Some degree of stress is always maintained on the second syllable. If the subsequent element is an existing word, it is likely to retain its original stress pattern, e.g. albuminocytological Brit. /alˌbjuːmᵻnə(ʊ)sʌɪtəˈlɒdʒᵻkl/, U.S. /ælˈˌbjumənoʊˌsaɪdəˈlɑdʒək(ə)l/.
Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; probably modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: albumin n., -o- connective.
Etymology: < albumin n. + -o- connective, probably after French albumino- (1801 or earlier).In specific use in sense 1b after French albumino-cytologique ( R. M. C. Augistrou Dissociation albumino-cytologique du liquide céphalo-rachidien (1912)).
