单词 copestone
释义

copestonen.

Brit. /ˈkəʊpstəʊn/, U.S. /ˈkoʊpˌstoʊn/
Forms: Also Sc. kaip-, keap-, cape-.
Etymology: < cope n.1 + stone n. The derivation is made certain by the northern forms in cape- , caip- ; but the sense appears to be influenced by association with cop n.2 top, or in the northern form perhaps with cap : see cap n.1 10b.
The top or head stone of a building; almost always figurative the crown, completion, finishing touch.
