Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek αἴλουρος , -phobia comb. form.
Etymology: < ancient Greek αἴλουρος cat (see ailurophile n.) + -phobia comb. form. Compare ailurophobe n. O.E.D. Suppl. (1972) gives only the pronunciation (əiliūərofōu·biă) /aɪl(j)ʊərəʊˈfəʊbɪə/.
Intense fear of or aversion to cats.
