Etymology: < German Albumose (W. Kühne 1877, in Verhandl. Naturhist.-medic. Vereins Heidelberg 1 239) < Album- (in Albumin albumin n.) + -ose (see -ose suffix²). Earlier in English in prefixed forms denoting distinct types, as anti-albumose and hemialbumose n. at hemi- prefix 3 (reflecting coinages in Kühne's 1877 paper). Compare earlier albuminose n.
