Etymology: counter- prefix 2g + faller n.Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: ˈcounter-ˌfaller.
Spinning.
In a cotton-spinning machine or mule, a wire which passes beneath the yarns, when pressed down by the faller-wire, so as to keep the tension uniform. Also attributive.
