/ˌkrɪnəˈlɛt/, U.S. /ˌkrɪnəˈlɛt/ A narrow version of the crinoline, designed to support skirts projecting from behind, and usually composed of half hoops suspended around the back of the legs. Cf. crinoline n. 2.The crinolette began to replace the crinoline in the mid 1860s, and was in turn superseded by the bustle.
