Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French course camarguaise.
Etymology: < French course camarguaise (1975 or earlier) < course course n.1 + camarguaise , feminine of camarguais of or relating to the Camargue < Camargue , the name of a landscape in southern Provence + -ais -ese suffix.The Fédération française de la course camarguaise, the official governing body for this sport, was founded in 1975.
In southern France: a form of competitive entertainment or sport in which participants compete to remove rosettes, coins, or other decorations tied to or between the horns of a bull. Also: a contest of this type. Cf. course libre n.
