单词 aldeia
释义

aldeian.

Brit. /alˈdɪə/, U.S. /ælˈdiə/
Forms:

α. 1600s 1800s– aldea, 1800s– aldeia.

β. 1700s aldee.

Origin: A borrowing from Portuguese. Partly also a borrowing from French. Etymons: Portuguese aldeia; French aldée.
Etymology: < Portuguese aldeia village (12th cent.; also †aldea (13th cent.); the sense ‘villa, country house’ (compare quot. 1698) is apparently not paralleled in Portuguese before 1873) < Arabic al-ḍayʿa < al the + ḍayʿa landed estate, agricultural hamlet, farm, village. Compare Spanish aldea village (11th cent.; > post-classical Latin aldea (13th cent. in a Spanish source)). In β. forms via French aldée (1674; < Portuguese).
In Portugal: a villa. In Brazil and other areas of Portuguese influence: a settlement, a village.
