单词 cuneus
释义

cuneusn.

Brit. /ˈkjuːnɪəs/, U.S. /ˈkjuniəs/
Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Cuneus.
Etymology: < German Cuneus (1865 or earlier) < classical Latin cuneus wedge, of uncertain origin. Compare cuneo- comb. form.It has been suggested that classical Latin cuneus derives from the same Indo-European base as classical Latin culex gnat (see culex n.), but this would give a long vowel in the first syllable of the Latin word. A borrowing, via Etruscan, from Byzantine Greek γώνιος angular ( < ancient Greek γωνία corner: see -gon comb. form), has also been proposed, but this is also problematic.
Anatomy.
A wedge-shaped lobule of the medial surface of the occipital lobe of the brain, located between the calcarine and parieto-occipital fissures.
