Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish curandera.
Etymology: < Spanish curandera female traditional healer (1611) < curar to cure (14th cent.; < classical Latin cūrāre cure v.1) + -era , feminine form corresponding to -ero -eer suffix1, showing the same morphological pattern as e.g. lavandera lavandera n., or hilandera spinner. Compare curandero n.
In Spain and Spanish-speaking contexts: a female healer who uses folk remedies; a female curandero (curandero n.).
