Etymology: < post-classical Latin curatrix (female) guardian (4th or 5th cent.), (female) curer, healer (5th cent.), feminine form corresponding to classical Latin cūrātor curator n. < classical Latin cūrāt- , past participial stem of cūrāre cure v.1 + -trīx -trix suffix.Compare Middle French, French curatrice (1478). In quot. 1678 at sense 1 Cudworth is quoting a saying of Hippocrates, ancient Greek αἱ ϕύσιες τῶν νουσέων Ίητροὶ Nature is the healer of diseases, sometimes translated into post-classical Latin as natura est curatrix morborum (1602 in English context, or earlier), sometimes as natura est morborum medicatrix (1606 in English context, or earlier), natura morborum medicatrix (1532 or earlier).
