Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek κρυσταλλο-.
Etymology: < ancient Greek κρυσταλλο-, combining form (in e.g. κρυσταλλόπηκτος congealed, frozen) of κρύσταλλος crystal n.; compare -o- connective.Earliest attested in the isolated early formation crystallomancy n. Subsequently in the late 18th cent. in crystallography n. (modelled on French or Latin) and related words. Formations become more common from the early 19th cent.
