单词 croze
释义

crozen.

/krəʊz/
Forms: In 1600s croes, crowes.
Etymology: perhaps derived < French creux, Old French croz, hollow, cavity, groove, excavation, creuser, Old French croser, to hollow out, excavate. Quot. 1706 at sense 1 (repeated in a number of 18th cent. dictionaries) appears to be due to a combination of blunders; crome is probably a misprint for crowe; and croe, crowe, fictitious singulars due to mistaking Cotgrave's croes, crowes, for plurals.
