单词 | cusum |
释义 | cusumn. 1. A statistical procedure for identifying changes in the probability distribution of a given process by considering cumulative sums associated with that process; a cumulative sum used in this procedure. Usually attributive, as cusum chart, cusum test, etc.The procedure was first developed by E. S. Page in 1954. It is most commonly used in quality control and in the monitoring of industrial processes. ΚΠ 1961 Quality Control & Appl. Statistics 6 901 Charts named above are given and two cusum and Shewhart schemes compared. 1978 T. Chard in T. S. Work & E. Work Lab. Techniques in Biochem. & Molecular Biol. VI. ii. x. 492 The cusum plot is a much more sensitive indicator of a change in conditions than is the plot of serial values. 1985 Biometrika 72 276 The standard modification of Page's procedure is to run two one-sided cusum tests simultaneously. 1990 Cattle Inspection (Committee on Evaluation of USDA Streamlined Inspection Syst. for Cattle) iv. 35 CUSUM is used to monitor slaughtering of cattle; this is similar to process control in manufacturing facilities. 2004 P. Farrington & N. Andrews in R. Brookmeyer & D. F. Stroup Monitoring Health of Populations viii. 222 The standard deviation is likely to vary with time of year, and standardized cusums are best used. 2009 S. J. Morrison Statistics for Engineers iii. 42 Although traditional forms of sample mean charts and cusum charts are well established..there is scope for developing new forms of control charts to cope with unusual circumstances. 2. A method for analysing the authorship of texts by considering cumulative sums which chart the frequencies of a particular stylistic feature (esp. sentence length) throughout a given text. Frequently attributive. This method of analysis was proposed by Andrew Queen Morton in 1967. Although previously accepted as evidence in trials in the United Kingdom, its validity and reliability has often been called into question. ΚΠ 1972 H. Eshbaugh in Perspective 13 40 Acts also has been analyzed by the ‘cusum’ method. 1987 E. A. Eyland in E. W. Conrad & E. G. Newing Perspectives on Lang. & Text 57 Two methods have been used; the CUSUM method as outlined by A. Q. Morton, and the intensity function method as used by H. Van Dyke Parunak. 1993 New Scientist 21 Aug. 13/1 Hardcastle condemns the ‘deplorable lack of scientific rigour’ used in cusum, and concludes that the technique ‘is ill-defined’. 1997 Computers & Humanities 31 355 Morton's QSUM is based on industrial process and quality control monitoring. 2008 J. Olsson Forensic Linguistics (ed. 2) ii. 21 He [sc. Morton] does make high claims for his method, the chief of which is that Cusum always works, even on short texts. This is a new entry (OED Third Edition, December 2016; most recently modified version published online March 2022). < n.1961 |
