Etymology: < a first element of uncertain origin, apparently expressing unsteady motion + -le suffix 3. Compare earlier toddle v., dawdle v., and diddle v.1 Perhaps compare also earlier dade v. and further dadder v.
colloquial and regional in later use.
1. intransitive. To pass or spend time idly or frivolously; to move slowly, to dawdle.
